According to some sellers, eBay's new system to cut down on the amount of Spam sent to users is causing some software packages and ISPs to identify legitimate email as Spam. When AuctionBytes talked with eBay spokesperson Kevin Pursglove at 11am PST, he was unaware of any problems
with the email system. When contacted later in the day, Pursglove confirmed that there had been reports of problems. Pursglove explained that some users had been helped by modifying the settings on their email software. This remedy, however, would not work for ISPs (Internet
Service Providers) who may be filtering eBay's email as Spam. EBay is looking at several solutions to the problem, but Pursglove would not go into details, saying only that it would be resolved "as soon as possible." When asked if eBay would consider pulling down the new email system until there was a fix in place, spokesperson Kevin Pursglove said
no, explaining that the problem was fairly small, "considering the fact that eBay generates several hundred thousand emails in a given week, and there had been fewer than 300 complaints."
