The Topps Company announced that etopps, its new brand of trading cards to be marketed exclusively via the Internet, is expected to be launched later in the 2001 baseball season, rather than this April, as previously anticipated. Cards will be sold individually, by player, in "IPOs" or "Initial Player Offerings." The cards will be sold in very limited quantities and purchasers will have the option of taking delivery of the cards or leaving them in an online portfolio. Cards left in the on-line portfolio can be traded on a special area of eBay, the "etopps trading floor on eBay." The Topps Company is an international marketer of entertainment products, principally collectible trading cards, confections and sticker/album collections. Founded in 1938, Topps created Bazooka bubble gum in 1947 and marketed its first baseball cards in 1951. For additional information http://www.topps.com.
