Within minutes of Mir's plunge into the Pacific Ocean, auctions claiming to be selling remains of the Russian space station began cropping up on eBay. One auction reached nearly $4,500 before it was pulled by the online auction site. According to eBay spokesperson Kevin Pursglove, "Unless someone can produce proof they have some wreckage, we'll keep pulling down the offers." Pursglove added that in all likelihood, the Russian government still had property rights to the fallen space station.
