eBay & Yahoo Make 'Egregious Oversights' Regarding Privacy

MSNBC reports that eBay and Yahoo "inconsistently deployed security features to their sites that expose user IDs and passwords to prying eyes in shared network settings. That means they're compromising the confidentiality of personal information the average user probably thinks is protected." When eBay users try to contact another eBay user, they are asked for their ID and password. No SSL log-in option is provided at this point. In a shared network environment, the information is transmitted in clear text. In Yahoo's case, oversight occurs with Yahoo! Messenger. http://www.msnbc.com/news/555045.asp
