eBay Creates Portals Within Its Site

eBay has created "Category Portal Pages" to bring together like-items on one page. eBay says that "The new format of the Category pages is designed to help build a robust community around each subject." The Business, Office and Industrial Portal Page, for example http://pages.ebay.com/catindex/business.html, includes such things as office equipment, office furniture, laboratory equipment, electronic parts, and more. This business/office/industry Portal Page shows the business side of eBay and may draw in new users, but it's too bad the URLs are clunky. It would be nice have something like "business.ebay.com" instead of "pages.ebay.com/catindex/business.html." Categories with Portal Pages include "Coins," "Stamps," "Business, Office and Industrial," "Dolls and Bears," "Hobbies and Crafts" and "Jewelry, Gemstones and Watches." More are on the way.
