Symbolically choosing Independence Day as their inaugural, Internet Pioneers, a new online auction co-operative, opened their doors for business yesterday. The goal, according to founder Steven Arnold, is to build a free auction site dedicated to co-operative principles and to "bring the fun and community back to online auctions." In addition to free auction services, Internet Pioneers will provide a discussion forum for co-op planning, and also provide free co-op educational materials. At press time, over 75 members had registered to begin selling on the Site.
According to Arnold, "In the past year, online auction sellers have seen fee increases across the board at the major online auction houses, including third party support services. In a rush to realize profits for shareholders, the major auction houses have ignored the concerns of their members. We believe that individuals can make a difference."
