Jet Breaks Price Barrier on eBay at $4.9 Million
By Ina Steiner

August 16, 2001

A business jet sold yesterday for $4.9 million on eBay, setting a record for the highest known sale price for any single item achieved on the online marketplace, and one of the highest on the Internet. The Gulfstream II jet is a luxurious aircraft configured to seat twelve passengers in plush surroundings. The buyer is a charter aircraft company located in Africa. The record sales price of $4.9 million is more than three times the previous known eBay record of $1.65 million. eBay's aviation category was launched late last month at http://www.ebay.com/aviation and has listed special interest aircraft previously owned by celebrities such as the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. and actor John Travolta.
