'Chubb's Antiques Roadshow' Wraps Up TV Season with a Unique Find
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com August 20, 2001
One of the most valuable items uncovered in the 6 year history of the Antiques Roadshow was discovered on Sunday as the Antiques Roadshow wrapped up next season's taping in Indiana. The item was a N. C. Wyeth painting of biblical subjects including Christ brought in by a resident from Archibold, OH, who had it in his family since 1913. The painting was estimated to be worth $250,000.
Another interesting find was an original watercolor by artist Frank Paul, an early science fiction illustrator (considered "the father of science fiction art"). The watercolor belonged to a woman whose father founded the Science Fiction Fan Club and purchased it at a science fiction convention in 1940. It was valued between $30,000 - $40,000. Also appraised was a late 1920's "orphan Annie" Halloween costume, valued between $2,500 - $3,000.
