- RECORDMECCA, a Web site for high-end collectible records and music memorabilia, is selling Elvis Presley's first-ever agency contract for $40,000. The previously unknown contract is one of the rarest Presley documents ever to come on the market. The contract is dated January 31, 1956
- the day after he recorded "Blue Suede Shoes," and 3 days after his first national television appearance. It was so early in Presley's career that the agency's typist mis-spelled his first name, which had to be corrected.
Other rarities offered in RECORDMECCA'S new "One of a Kind" section include Jimi Hendrix's own love-beads, a copy of the Beatles first record (recording as Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers), a program from Bob Dylan's 1961 first-ever concert and a guitar owned by blues legend Howlin' Wolf.
Prices on the site range from $125 for a Jimi Hendrix concert poster to $40,000 for the Presley contract. RECORDMECCA, based in Venice, Califirnia, is operated by former Warner Bros. Records Executive Vice President /General Manager, Jeff Gold, a longtime collector and appraiser on VH1's "Rock Collectors" show. http://www.recordmecca.com
