Dot-com "urban hipsters" helped trigger the scooter craze. "But as the dot-com bubble burst, so did scooter sales--and an already saturated kids' market moved on to other toys," according to Reuters. Scooter-maker Huffy had $44 million in scooter sales in Q3 last year, compared to this year's third quarter when it sold "virtually no scooters."
