Amazon.com said it sold over 37.9 million items between November 9th and December 21st, including Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.fr, Amazon.de and Amazon.co.jp. It shipped more than 10 million from the non-U.S. sites.

Bestselling products worldwide included Harry Potter (the book) and Shrek (the movie) items, the LeapPad talking interactive book, and GameCube, Xbox and PlayStation2 units. In electronics, DVD players topped the list. The music winner was the CD Swing When You're Winning by British pop star Robbie Williams.

Last-minute holiday shoppers also turned to Amazon.com, purchasing over 36,000 items through Amazon's Last-Minute Shipping option, offered from Dec. 21 to noon Dec. 22. Also popular with last-minute shoppers were gift certificates, magazine subscriptions and Circuit City purchases with in-store pickup, available through Amazon.com's new Circuit City store.
