Yahoo! said it will hold a Free Listing Day (FLD) on its auction site on March 12, 2002. Yahoo! Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com), part of the Yahoo! Shopping network, said that all items submitted to the site between 12:01am PST and 11:59 PST on Tues., Mar. 12, 2002, would incur no listing fees. In addition, all money that is sent and accepted through Yahoo! PayDirect between March 13 and March 15 will be free of transaction fees. Additionally, Yahoo! Auctions will launch a $1 showcase featuring items with a $1 start price and no reserve. This showcase will only be promoted March 13th through March 15th.
Yahoo! Auctions is also running a sweepstakes program. Beginning on March 13th and running for 100 days, Yahoo! Auctions will launch a "Winners Win Twice" sweepstakes program in which it will pay back 10 winning bidders everyday. Plus every winning bidder will be entered into the grand prize drawing at the end of the 100 day sweepstakes.
Yahoo! Auctions has been reinventing itself since the corporate restructure in the fall, and it realigned its fees to be more attractive to auction sellers. Of the site's Free Listing Day event held on January 24, Yahoo! said that listings reached a high of nearly 630,000. In early February, Yahoo! told AuctionBytes that, although listings had since decreased about 15% at that point, they were still well above the pre-FLD level of approximately 320,000.
