eBay Integration with Half.com Causes Major Headaches for Sellers
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com March 25, 2002
"A nightmarish situation" was how one member described the problems that Half.com sellers were experiencing over the weekend. One seller posted on an eBay forum that her entire inventory, almost 600 books, had disappeared from Half.com. The problems stemmed from eBay's integration of the Half.com feedback system into eBay system that began on Friday.
On Wednesday, eBay announced it would integrate the feedback and registration process of the Half.com and eBay Web sites to make it easier for members to buy and sell on both sites. Under the new integration plans, eBay users will have one account for both sites, and Half.com will adopt the eBay feedback system.
On Thursday, eBay posted a message on its "System Status" announcement board that stated that members of both sites might experience temporary issues with the Feedback Forum during the migration of feedback from Half.com to eBay beginning on Friday.
On Friday, Half.com posted a message to its announcement board that stated in part, "Some Members may notice, when signing into their Half.com accounts that their inventory and transaction history has been removed. If this describes your account, please try signing into your Half.com account with your User id followed by -half (e.g. User id "Bob" should try "bob-half") and your Half.com password." However, some members are finding that solution does not work.
eBay purchased the Half.com fixed price site in 2000 and announced plans to integrate the two sites in May 2001. Half.com is restricted to U.S. buyers and sellers.
