In an effort to boost funding for their popular PBS television program, the "Antiques Roadshow" announced today a new line of celebrity appraiser Bobblehead dolls. Executive Producer Peter Cook said in a statement, "We've been a bit too stuffy over the years and need to "MTV" up our image."
The dolls include likenesses of the twin appraisers, the Keno Brothers, whose heads bob in unison; Glass expert Reyne Heynes, whose head was produced by the Fenton Company; and pop-culture memorabilia expert Gary Sohmers, whose pony-tailed head is twice the size of any other
doll in the line. Pricing for the dolls is expected to start at $24.99 and will be available in the Sotheby's aisle in Toys 'R Us stores across the U.S.
According to Cook, there are even more plans to liven up the 6-year old series. Although Cook wouldn't give details, he did hint that appraisers would be required to wear in-line skates to tapings of the show, and that a giant skateboard ramp was being included in new set designs.
