Yahoo! changed the masthead for Yahoo! Auctions to Yahoo! Shopping Auctions last week as a part of its "ongoing effort to build one buying and selling community on Yahoo!" Last fall, Yahoo! launched a common search between Yahoo! Auctions, Shopping, Warehouse and Classifieds. The changes are part of an effort to show buyers on each Yahoo! section all the items that are available for sale across all Yahoo! properties.
Yahoo! also implemented a new marketing feature. As of Thursday, it will send a special email to bidders when they don't win an auction; the email will promote similar items and items from the same seller. Yahoo! hopes this will encourage further sales.
Yahoo! also announced it will launch a new showcase on its auction site featuring items starting at $1 with no reserve price. The showcase will begin today (Monday) and will be available for ten days. The cost is 10 cents a day to list an auction in the showcase.
