After a nine-hour outage in two separate categories on Sunday, eBay had additional technical problems on Monday. eBay users could not access the home page and several other pages between 9:40 am and 10:49 am PST.
Monday's problems affected the home page, bidding and viewing. eBay was still reviewing the events that preceded the access difficulties when interviewed last night, but said that Monday's problems were not related to the hard outage experienced on Sunday. eBay will credit all associated fees for listings that were scheduled during the outage.
When asked whether technical problems would be an ongoing issue for users over the next few weeks, eBay spokesperson Kevin Pursglove said no. He also said that the outage is unrelated to the company's "V3" upgrade, eBay's next generation infrastructure that was begun in the fourth quarter of 2001, with development and deployment expected to continue for another 17 or 18 months. Pursglove said the goals of the V3 initiative are to increase developer productivity and API integration; to enhance eBay's ability to easily add new features and user tools; to allow for greater flexibility in adding new businesses; to improve site dependability; and to improve the overall user experience.
Sunday's nine-hour outage affected the Clothing & Accessories category and the Jewelry, Gems and Watches category. eBay extended by 24 hours those auctions that had been scheduled to end during the outage or one hour after the outage, and it also credited all associated fees of listed items. eBay's Outage Policy may be viewed at http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-extn.html.
