Reading AuctionBytes: eBay to Implement Software for Multilingual Content Translation

TRADOS Inc. announced that eBay has adopted its software to translate multilingual content for eBay’s online trading Web sites. eBay has successfully completed a 3-month pilot program using TRADOS 5 software.

“TRADOS’ expertise has helped us to better integrate the localization process into our development schedules by allowing us to cut overall translation times, reduce production costs and leverage our own internal resources,” said Thomas Fenrich, Director of Global Content Development at eBay.

TRADOS said that demographics for Web users and e-commerce will continue to shift significantly away from the U.S. and English, further fuelling the demand for multilingual content. The company also offers technology to enable buyers searching for goods in one language to connect with sellers advertising in another language. TRADOS said its MultiTermiX solution has broad application for online exchanges, manufacturers, and other enterprises that want to manage and distribute multilingual terminology over Intranets or the Internet.
