Amazon May Offer Marketplace Sellers More Options

Reading AuctionBytes: Amazon May Offer Marketplace Sellers More Options

CNET reported on Tuesday that Amazon is considering expanding its Marketplace policy to allow more used goods for sale. An Amazon spokesperson contacted by AuctionBytes would not comment on the rumor.

Currently, Amazon offers users a variety of options for selling on its site. Like most auction sites, Amazon Auctions and Zshops allow sellers to sell just about anything. But Amazon's Marketplace limits items to used goods that Amazon itself sells new. Sellers' used items are listed alongside the same items carried by Amazon.com.

Amazon's various options for sellers can be somewhat confusing, and each method has its own policies and fees. Many booksellers use eBay for selling unusual or collectible books, and use Amazon's Marketplace for all other books. While Marketplace commissions are higher, sellers may list an unlimited number of items for free, and books get good exposure on Marketplace. Other Amazon Marketplace categories include Music, Video, DVD, PC Games, Computers, Video Games, Electronics, Tools & Hardware, Camera & Photo, Kitchen & Housewares and Outdoor Living.
