Playboy Turns to eBay for Auctions
By Ina Steiner
EcommerceBytes.com
May 28, 2002

Playboy Auctions will phase out auctions on its site and will instead rely on eBay to host its auctions. Currently, individuals can post auctions on the Playboy Auctions site alongside auctions posted by Playboy. Once the transition is completed in June, only Playboy's own auctions will appear on the site. All Playboy auctions will be hosted by eBay, and Playboy members will have to register with eBay in order to bid.

During the week of May 13, Playboy will disable the listing function on its site, which will prevent the placing of new listings on its service. After May 31, 2002 auctions.playboy.com will no longer host listings placed by individuals. Any listings still open after May 31 will be closed by the site administrator, and all bids will be marked as lost.

Starting the week of June 3, 2002 all of Playboy Auctions' listings will be hosted by eBay while continuing to appear auctions.playboy.com.

Playboy Auctions told sellers they would be able to place Playboy listings alongside its own listings in the Playboy Magazine, Collectibles, Clothing and Accessories, and Experiences categories on eBay.
