The 26th Annual Vermont Quilt Festival will kick off with a reception today, June 27. The Reception celebrates the premier of the special exhibit, "Pioneers: Teaching the World to Quilt," curated by Nancy Halpern, a highly regarded quilter, artist, teacher and historian.
The exhibit honors a group of 60 quilters who have taught thousands of quilters this highly regarded American art and craft. Following its debut at the 2002 Festival, this exhibit will travel nationally. The exhibit is sponsored in part by Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, a leading publication for quilters throughout the states and abroad.
The Festival runs Friday through Sunday on the Norwich Campus in Northfield. It includes 200 contest quilts in a variety of categories. There are also classes, lectures and evening programs. The Festival also features an AQS Appraisal Skills class led by Bobbie Aug and Sharon Newman of the Appraisal Certification Board of the American Quilters Society.
