eBay PowerSeller Michele Jai Johnson launched a new auction site, Freebooters.com, last month. The site's mission is to provide buyers and sellers with a respectable environment in which to trade just about anything on the planet. Johnson opened the site with her brother, Scott Carr, President and CEO of Freebooters.com. Car is a top technical analyst for a major worldwide computer hardware corporation.
Freebooters.com is celebrating the launch with one-cent listing fees and a prize giveaway during the month of August. Although the auction site faces stiff competition in the online industry, Johnson said the two rewards programs they have in place will attract both buyers and sellers. For top sellers in their field, with established marketing bases, Freebooters.Com offers a Category Owner Program, where sellers can earn an equal portion of the site income based on performance. Freebooters also offers an end-of-the-year rebate program for both buyers and sellers based on the net amount of feedback points members have earned.
Johnson explained that the name Freebooters came from a reference to "pirates."
