William Mastro, CEO of MastroNet Inc., said his company's recent sports auction earned $6.5 million, half a million higher than pre-auction estimates.
The auction closed August 22, and 23, with only three lots out of 2,052 failed to sell. The leading collectibles powerhouse was pleased, but not surprised by the recent capping of expectations by more than $500,000.
"We knew it was coming," explained Mastro. "We went from zero to $3 million in nothing flat during the initial days of bidding. Mastro added, "Considering recent events in the stock market, it appears that more and more people want to invest in something tangible - something they can hold."
The top ten lots included the following.
Don Larsen's Perfect Game Collection, including the "last out" baseball sold for $120,750.00.
1927 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball went for $85,904.00.
