eBay sellers complained Thursday that their auctions were not loading when using PayPal's logo in their listings. Sellers frequently include logos of third-party vendors in their auction listings, such as payment and auction-management services.
One seller told AuctionBytes, "Like many eBay Sellers, I have spent countless hours creating hundreds of auction Text Files which I use to list my eBay Auctions. Included in those .txt files are the PayPal Smart Logo. Apparently there is JavaScript in it. Just this afternoon eBay made
it impossible to list auctions with JavaScript. I cannot list new items, nor re-list existing items. I have contacted PayPal, and they are working feverishly on a work-around."
eBay and PayPal representatives did not return phone calls, and there was no report of this particular problem on the eBay Announcement Board.
In related news, eBay appointed Matt Bannick to Senior Vice President, Global Online Payments. eBay intends to acquire PayPal by year-end, and Bannick will oversee the integration of PayPal into the eBay site and the phasing-out of eBay's Billpoint payment service.
Update: A PayPal representative said that eBay changed their Javascript filter so the old PayPal smartlogo code will no longer work. "If they have automatic logo insertion on, they wouldn't need to do much, except if they try to relist with a listing containing the old code. If they have a template, they need to update their template w/ our latest code.
"In other words, users that use the automatic logo insertions will not have to really do anything. The real problem is with users that manually input it with the old code, or if they have a template for listing that contains the old code."
