By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com September 17, 2002
Loews Cineplex Entertainment, in cooperation with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, presents the 2nd Annual Spotlight on the Cure program to help raise awareness and funds to support the Foundation’s mission to eradicate breast cancer through research, education, screening and treatment. Throughout the month of October, recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Loews will empower millions of moviegoers with information about breast cancer screening and treatment and offer different ways to contribute to the cause while visiting a Loews Cineplex theatre throughout the country.
To help kick off this year’s Spotlight on the Cure program, Loews is presenting a month-long "Spotlight" auction on eBay with proceeds going to the Komen Foundation. The auction offers participants the chance to bid for unique and one-of-a-kind items such as celebrity-designed popcorn buckets, created by some of the most famous names in show business. Academy Award winners Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Susan Sarandon and Whoopi Goldberg, Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner, Friends star Courteney Cox-Arquette, NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, Mike Myers, Tim Allen, Christina Applegate, Lucy Liu, Patti LaBelle, Colin Farrell, Patricia Arquette, Geena Davis, Melina Kankaredes, Olympic gold-medal figure skater Peggy Fleming, Access Hollywood’s Pat O’Brien and Nancy O’Dell, Patricia Clarkson, Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Sherry Lansing, Miss USA 2002 Shauntay Hinton, fashion designer Shoshana Lonstein, and Today Show’s Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry have donated personally designed popcorn buckets for the auction to help support the fight against breast cancer.
