eBay Sellers Express Concern about Accepting PayPal

In previewing forthcoming changes that will be made as a result of eBay's acquisition of PayPal, some eBay sellers posting on message boards said they were concerned about being forced to accept eBay's Checkout feature, even when they have opted out of using the feature.

Some sellers believe that if they choose to select PayPal as a payment method on eBay's Sell Your Item form, it will force them to accept eBay's Checkout feature. eBay spokesperson Kevin Pursglove said that is not the case. "We know that many sellers use checkout options provided by their auction management services." He said eBay will not force sellers to use eBay's Checkout feature, even if they choose to accept PayPal in their auctions.

eBay encountered strong resistance to Checkout when it first rolled out the feature last year. Checkout continues to be a touchy subject for many sellers.

eBay completed its acquisition of PayPal last week. The PayPal payment service is being added as a payment option on eBay's Sell Your item form as changes are rolled out over the coming weeks. http://www.ebay.com/paypal/preview
