Users had problem accessing some auctions on eBay over the weekend. The problems started Saturday night and continued intermittently on Sunday. eBay's announcement board said not all auctions were affected. The board also announced that some eBay site emails, including End of Auction notices, were going out more slowly than usual.
In addition, users were unable to make a payment using eBay's Billpoint payment service for almost an hour Sunday morning, and some members were unable to access PayPal, the online payment service recently acquired by eBay. The access issue appeared to be limited to certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
The glitches come at one of the busiest times for the site as people shop for holiday gifts, and Sundays are especially popular with eBay buyers. eBay announced earlier in the month that it would institute a "quiet period" during the holiday shopping season, from November 10 – December 31, 2002, indicating it would significantly minimize the release of new features. It is continuing the integration of PayPal into the eBay site, however.
