Bug in PayPal Email Notices Plagues eBay Sellers

A bug in PayPal's email system caused delays in Winning Bidder Notifications (WBNs) over the past week. Several sellers reported to AuctionBytes that PayPal WBNs were very late in being received and that the links within the email, which previously linked to specific transactions, now linked to their transaction histories instead. While sellers were still able to find the transaction through their History pages, the process took much longer to complete.

"Before, the time to complete an invoice was tops 30 seconds," said Todd McCormick, a PowerSeller who sells under the eBay ID, your-canadian-friend. "Now it takes 3 minutes. Take that time multiply it by 200 emails a day, and it's significant. Lots of extra time wasted with no warning from PayPal"

On Thursday, eBay spokesperson Kevin Pursglove said a fix for the bug was being installed. "It should be taken care of by tomorrow (Friday)."

eBay purchased PayPal in October and is in the process of integrating the payment service into its auction site.
