Online Antiques Mall Sees 15% Holiday Sales Increase over Last Year
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com December 09, 2002
TIAS.com, the Web's largest catalog of antiques and collectibles, released online sales data showing a 15% increase in sales at the start of the Holiday shopping season versus the same time last year. There was a 12% increase in the number of online orders placed, and a 3% increase in the average dollar amount of an order in November of 2002.
The data compared online fixed-price non-auction sales for November 2002 with November 2001 sales. Data for both periods came from over 700 independent, antique and collectible merchants that use TIAS.com and AntiqueArts.com.
"Despite the harsh economic conditions, it looks like the preliminary sales figures for November indicate that we should have a good solid Holiday shopping season through December," said Phillip Davies President of TIAS.com. "The market for antiques and collectibles online is maturing. Customers are much more comfortable buying from online merchants than they were in the past."
