Mimi's Heavenly Delights is Meg Smith's new online-auction baking business. Meg worked for fifteen years as an ophthalmic nurse, but left her cherished position when she started having ear problems. She has traded one sweet love for another.
“Due to the fact I have Meniere's disease, it has been an adjustment for my daughter and I, but life is good,” Meg said. “I started selling on auctions a few years ago as a hobby and now it is my new job. I love it and the wonderful people I have met and made friends with. I love to bake homemade goods and I have had standing customers for years, some ordering each week."
Meniere’s disease is rare, incurable, and the cause is unknown. “I did not know what to expect, but I knew that in time I would not hear," she said. Meg is no longer able to drive because she cannot hear trains or emergency vehicles. But her account is one of personal triumph against an illness that she refuses to let hold her back.
Meg Smith learned the art of baking from her mother. She moved from Alabama to Mississippi in her early twenties and operates Mimi's Heavenly Delights from her country home in the small community of Hurley.
