The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) elected eBay CEO Meg Whitman (46) to the company's Board of Directors effective January 1, 2003. "We are pleased that Meg is joining our board," stated A.G. Lafley, chairman of the board, president and chief executive. "She has built one of the most profitable e-commerce businesses in the world. Her understanding of consumers, branding, and the Internet make her a tremendous addition to P&G's board."

Whitman's first job after graduating from Harvard Business School was as a P&G Marketing Brand Assistant. Whitman joined eBay in her current position as CEO in 1998 from Hasbro, where she was general manager of the Preschool Division. Prior to that position, she was president and CEO of Florists Transworld Delivery (FTD), the world's largest floral products company, and before that, president of the Stride Rite Corporation's Stride Rite division.

Whitman also serves on the Board of Directors of Goldman, Sachs & Co. and the Board of Trustees of Princeton University, where she earned a B.A. in Economics in 1977. Whitman recently agreed to donate $30 million to the University for the creation of a new residential college, "Whitman College."
