Abebooks, the world's largest online marketplace for used, rare and out-of-print books, and R.R. Bowker, the world's leading publisher of bibliographic information, have announced a partnership that will benefit bookbuyers and booksellers in North America and the United Kingdom.

Abebooks is partnering with Bowker to make the 40 million books currently listed on Abebooks.com available to book buyers that use Bowker's booksinprint.com and globalbooksinprint.com Web sites. This partnership presents another avenue for making the books of Abebooks' ten thousand booksellers available for sale to a larger global market.

"This partnership enhances the position of our sites booksinprint.com and globalbooksinprint.com as authoritative search tools for the book buying community," said Michael Cairns, president of New Providence, N.J.-based R.R. Bowker. "By allowing Bowker's online subscribers to link to Abebooks' extensive database of hard-to-find books available for sale, Abebooks and Bowker present a convenient online tool for librarians, booksellers, educators, students, and general book buyers - anyone researching English-language books."

Customers who are searching for a rare or out-of-print book will now be able to perform a title, author, or ISBN search on booksinprint.com or globalbooksinprint.com, and have immediate access to Abebooks' database of used, rare and out-of-print books.

"The main goal of Abebooks is to sell our booksellers' books. By making these books available on the Bowker sites, we place these titles in front of a larger audience for everyone's benefit," explained Brent James, chief executive officer of Abebooks. "It's a natural partnership: Abebooks has 40 million rare and out-of-print books and Bowker has the community of book buyers searching for these books."
