eBay Modifies Feedback Pages to Educate New Members

eBay said it has made changes to the "Leave Feedback" page and the page members see when leaving negative feedback. The feedback system is eBay's method for establishing a user's reputation. Members rate their trading partners with a Positive, Negative or Neutral feedback, and have one line (80 characters) to explain why.

eBay said its members want eBay to provide more educational information to new members, including more information about leaving negative feedback, and requested the "Leave Feedback" page be made easier to navigate and understand.

eBay said it will change the order of the positive, negative and neutral feedback buttons and separate the space between each button. In addition, it will provide information about contacting other members to encourage members to work out disputes before leaving negative feedback.

In order to ensure member third-party tool compatibility, the current pages will remain the default, and the new pages will be linked from the existing pages for the next few weeks.

AuctionBytes conducted a recent survey of 1,000 auction users in January. The survey revealed that 29% of the respondents thought eBay's feedback system was fair or poor; 35% thought it was adequate; 29% felt the system was very good; and 7% rated it excellent.

eBay announced last month that it would introduce a "Seller Information Box" on the description page of items for sale to make it easier for potential bidders to review a seller's feedback. The Feedback System itself is not changing. The new box is expected to appear in auctions sometime this month.
