eBay announced late Sunday evening that they were making changes to certain fee structures. Included were changes in Reserve fees, Home Page Featured fees and Bold fees. The change puts a cap of $100 on Reserve Price fees instead of the previous $2 maximum fee for that optional feature. (The Reserve Price feature puts a hidden minimum price on the auction; if a bidder does not meet Reserve price, the seller is not obligated to sell the item.)

The restructured Reserve fees will primarily affect listings with Reserves over $99.99, as shown in a comparison of the old and new rate schedules:

New Reserve fee schedule:
Reserve Price Reserve Price Auction Fee
$0.01 - $24.99$0.50
$25.00 - $99.99$1.00
$100 and up1% of Reserve Price

Old Reserve fee schedule:
Reserve Price Reserve Price Auction Fee
$0.01 - $24.99$0.50
$25.00 - $199.99$1.00
$200 and up$2.00

The change in Reserve fees will affect all auction-style listings in all eBay.com categories including eBay Motors non-Vehicles categories, and Real Estate auction-style format. The Reserve fee for eBay Motors Vehicles and Real Estate Ad Format will remains the same.

In other fee changes, Bold Fees decreased from $2.00 to $1.00, and Bolded listings in stores also decreased:

Duration Current PriceNew Price
30 days $2.00$1.00
60 days $3.00$2.00
90 days $4.00$3.00
120 days $5.00$4.00
Good 'til Cancelled $2.00 every 30 days$1.00 every 30 days

eBay is also adding a second level of pricing for Home Page Featured based on quantity of items in the listing. For a single item listing, the fee will remain unchanged at $99.95. When the quantity of items in the listing is two or greater, the fee will be $199.95.

Changes will be effective March 4th 2003 on the eBay U.S. Site. eBay is also making changes to its Canadian and Australian Sites effective March 25, 2003.
