AuctionDrop Consignment Service for eBay Sales Opens First Location

AuctionDrop opened a consignment-sales service in the San Francisco Bay area where consumers can drop off goods to sell on eBay. Customers can take their new or used items, and AuctionDrop takes care of listing, payment processing, shipping and returns. AuctionDrop makes its money by taking a variable commission on the item's selling price.

Customers can bring in anything that is legal to sell on eBay and can be shipped by UPS (under 150 lbs. with some size restrictions). The item must also be valued at a minimum of $50. AuctionDrop will evaluate it, photograph it, write a description and list it on eBay at exactly the right time to get the best sale price. Once the auction ends, AuctionDrop takes care of payment processing and shipping, and sends a check to the customer. If an item doesn't sell the first time, AuctionDrop lists it again for free. If it doesn't sell the second time, the customer can choose to pick it up or have it automatically donated to charity for a tax deduction.

AuctionDrop received VC funding for the new venture from Draper Associates and Mobius Venture Capital, and Randy Adams, Bill Rollinson and Andy Jeffrey founded the company.

AuctionBytes wrote about a similar service in November 2000 called MyEZsale.com. The service was a franchise that utilized existing pack-and-ship stores like Mail Boxes Etc. MyEZsale, founded by Mitchell Schecter, is no longer in business. http://www.auctionbytes.com/pages/abu/y200/m11/abu0025/s02

AuctionDrop is located at 1125-B Industrial Road in San Carlos, California, AuctionDrop is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday thru Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday.
