Reading AuctionBytes: Former Bain CEO Joins eBay's Board of Directors

eBay announced the addition of Thomas Tierney to its board of directors. Tierney joins the board immediately.

Tierney is the founder and chairman of the Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit business-consulting firm serving the nonprofit sector. Previously he served as chief executive of Bain & Company, the international strategy-consulting firm. Tierney has also co-authored a book about organization and strategy called "Aligning the Stars."

eBay also announced that Howard Schultz will step down from the board when his term expires at the company's annual meeting in June. Schultz has decided to limit his outside board commitments due to his demanding schedule. Schultz is chairman of the board and chief global strategist of Starbucks Corporation and a co-founder of Maveron LLC, a leading venture capital firm focused on the consumer. He has served as an eBay director since June 1998.

eBay's board of directors also includes: Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of the board; Meg Whitman, president and CEO; Scott Cook, chairman of the executive committee of Intuit Inc.; Robert Kagle, general partner of Benchmark Capital Partners; Philippe Bourguignon, former chairman of Club Mediterranee; and Dawn Gould Lepore, vice chairman of the Charles Schwab Corporation.
