John Dreese, owner of the Web site eBayDeadbeats.com, put his site for sale on eBay this week. Dreese created his site in February 2002 to try to deal with the problem of "deadbeat," or non-paying bidders, on eBay.
The site, which has no affiliation with eBay, contains information to help sellers "understand and deal with the daily frustrations of interactions with deadbeats." The most popular part of the Web site is the forum that lets sellers blow off steam when dealing with some deadbeats.
Dreese said he originally tried to get advertisers to help defray his costs, but said it did not pan out. "I just don't have the time, resources, and know-how that it deserves."
The auction listing for his anti-deadbeat site includes an ironic warning. "I report all deadbeat bidders to ebayDeadbeats.COM."
The bidding for the site started 3 days ago at $10, with a reserve price. The auction ended last night with a final bid of $113.50, but did not meet reserve.
