TIAS.com reported the average selling price of items sold on eBay by its merchants is down 32% from last year. TIAS.com is an online antiques mall founded in 1995. TIAS merchants sell antiques and collectibles in the online mall and on eBay.
The average selling price of an item sold on eBay by a TIAS dealer was $28.43, down 32% from last year's $41.80. Average selling price was $50.49 for the same period in 2001.
The sell-through rate also dropped 32%. In the first three months of 2003, the sell-through rate was 26%; in the first three months of 2002, the sell-through rate was 38.4%. The sell-through rate is determined by comparing how many items listed on eBay actually receive winning bids with the total number of items listed.
Yesterday AuctionBytes, publisher of AuctionBytes Newsflash, released its 2003 Collectibles Price Index and found that sellers of collectibles are making 3% less on eBay than they were a year ago, and are completing 18% fewer successful auctions. The index shows prices have come down every year since 2000, the first year that Auctionbytes collected data. Last year's study showed that collectibles prices on eBay were down 11% from 2001. Although the drop in prices is less dramatic than last year, it marks the third straight year that prices of collectibles included in the index has fallen. Prices are down 35% since 2000.
