eBay Rolls Out Changes in Effort to Reduce Fraud

eBay will make a number of Trust and Safety changes to the End of Auction (EOA) and End of Transaction (EOT) emails sent by eBay at the close of a listing. EOA and EOT emails will include the first initial, last name, city and region of the member's trading partner. "For example, this would read as: J. Smith, San Jose, CA, USA," read the announcement.

By giving members more information about the location and identity of buyers and sellers, some scams may be avoided. For example, some scammers have "hijacked" transactions and ask buyers to send money to them instead of the real seller. The EOA and EOT emails will also include additional Trust and Safety messaging, providing contextual tips on how to trade and pay safely on eBay.

eBay noted that the "Get Contact Information" feature will not be changing and will still be available to exchange additional contact information. Most eBay sites worldwide will be sending these new emails, but transactions conducted in Real Estate, Motors, Live Auctions, Merchant Tool and Co-brands will not be included.

eBay also said it will host a live chat featuring Rob Chestnut, Vice President of eBay's Trust and Safety Department, on Tuesday, June 10th from 5:00 - 6:00 PDT. Chestnut will discuss and field questions about site policies and the steps that eBay is taking to combat fraud and maintain a safe online marketplace.
