eBay Proposes Some Category Reorganization; Introduces ''Item Specifics''

eBay announced yesterday that they will be reorganizing the Toys & Hobbies and Dolls & Bears Categories on their site. The proposed changes combine the "Dolls & Bears" and "Toys & Hobbies" categories to create one category called "Toys & Dolls".

Five sub-category links will exist under the new category for Action Figures, Diecast, Dolls, Games, and Model RR, Trains. Full information on the changes can be found at: http://pages.ebay.com/catpreview/toys.html

The changes come on the heels of several other category changes within Jewelry, Coins, Sports and Books. The change in the Books category was vehemently opposed by many book sellers who were vocal about their opposition to the move of Books as a stand-alone category to a sub-category under "Entertainment". eBay subsequently reversed their decision and returned Books to it's original spot.

In another announcement, eBay will be introducing "Item Specifics" into several categories including "Pottery & Glass" and "Women's Clothing, Shoes & Accessories". "Item Specifics" is an eBay feature that allows sellers to provide additional item details during the selling process. Buyers can search using these item details, in addition to regular Title search and Description Search.

More information on Item Specifics can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/ff4z
