eDeposit Corporation announced the winner of an "anti-fraud" contest from their eBay Live conference booth today in Orlando, Florida. Peter Markham of Auburn Antiques of Australia will receive a Sony Cyber-shot 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera for his winning essay.
The eDeposit contest required entrants to describe in 500 words or less how they were victimized (or almost victimized) by auction fraud, and the lessons learned. Peter from Auburn Antiques was selected by a panel of judges (including Ina Steiner, Editor of AuctionBytes.com). The winning entry was chosen for relevance, readability and originality.
eDeposit provides services to make transactions safer for both eBay buyers and sellers by verifying both parties' identities and taking deposits to ensure that buyers are serious. The company's reason for holding the contest was to increase awareness about online auction fraud and to help the company determine what services they could offer to help auction users better protect themselves online fraud.
"eDeposit launched this contest to get a feel for what people are going through as far as auction fraud," said Suzanne Elbaum, marketing director for the company. "We felt that this would help us relate to what is happening out there and to develop products/services to help combat these problems. The contest did help us see what could possibly be developed to help combat some existing fraud issues."
