The delicious story of chocolate spans more than two thousand years. An exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History will explore the legends, history, ecology, economics, and enduring allure of chocolate, which has been used to express love, to flaunt wealth, to pay debts, and to venerate the gods.
On view at the American Museum of Natural History from June 14 through September 7, 2003, Chocolate and its national tour were developed by The Field Museum, Chicago. This project was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation.
In conjunction with Chocolate, the Museum is offering a broad range of tastings. Each weekend, beginning at 1:00 p.m., while samples last, Museum visitors can taste, free with suggested Museum admission, a variety of fine chocolates in The Chocolate Shop outside the exit to the exhibition, and in the Chocolate Café, catered by Restaurant Associates, on the fourth floor.
