Leslie Hindman, one of the country’s foremost authorities on the buying and selling of antiques, fine art, and collectibles, will host an online auction next week. Hindman's first auction at her new Chicago gallery will take place in "real life" and on eBay using Live Auctioneers technology on September 28-29, 2003.
The auction will feature a selection of furniture, rugs, fine and decorative arts, and jewelry from the 18th through 20th centuries. A total of 762 items are for sale, with starting prices ranging from $100 to $20,000. The event will be held at 11:00 PDT on Sunday, September 28 and 4:00pm PDT on Monday, September 29, at Leslie Hindman, Inc. in Chicago. Live Auctioneers will oversee the online bidding via eBay Live Auctions.
Leslie Hindman began her career in 1982 as the founder of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago, which grew to be the fifth largest auction house in the country and was acquired by Sotheby’s in 1997. Hindman also hosted two popular television shows on the Home & Garden Television Network (HGTV), At the Auction with Leslie Hindman and The Appraisal Fair.
Hindman founded and operated Eppraisals.com, an online appraisal service, in 1999. Eppraisals developed a network of more than 750 experts to give "online appraisals" for a fee, and in March 2001, eBay chose Eppraisals as its exclusive online-appraisal provider. The company closed its virtual doors in June 2001, during the dot-com implosion.
In November 2002, Hindman opened Leslie Hindman Gallery in Chicago, specializing in 19th and 20th century American and European paintings, jewelry, furniture, and decorative arts. September's auction will be the first at her new gallery.
