eBay is launching a marketing campaign to drive traffic to listings in the Music, Video Games, and Entertainment Memorabilia categories. The "Bid, Buy, and WIN!" promotion will run from September 25 through October 31. eBay will also launch a public relations campaign and will merchandise entertainment-related items across eBay.com
Beginning September 25th, various major retail outlets, consumer shopping destinations and eBay partners will be giving out millions of special cards with eBay keywords such as "Sopranos," "Michael Jackson," "Playstation 2," "Bob Dylan," and "Matrix." The cards will instruct buyers to go to eBay and type in the keyword listed on the card. Buyers that type in these keywords on eBay will be eligible to win prizes and bid on entertainment items.
Last year, when it was revealed that eBay participated in programs that rewarded visitors for simply bidding on items, it raised concerns among users that participants might bid on items with no intention of purchasing them. Sellers were concerned about deadbeat bidders, while buyers were concerned about paying higher prices for goods.
