Half.com Transition to eBay Continues, Some Titles Removed from Half
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com October 13, 2003
eBay told booksellers in late September that some titles were being removed from the Half.com system. According to the announcement, the service recently changed the book catalog it uses: "While the overall number of books increased, we did loose a small number of books from our catalog. Half.com sent an email out to every seller who was possibly affected by this change." Some sellers were unaffected, while others reported a loss of a small portion of their Half.com inventory due to the change.
As previously announced, Half.com will be integrated into eBay by the summer of 2004. At that point, the Half.com brand and Web site will no longer exist.
Meanwhile, eBay introduced "Pre-Filled Item Information." This feature enables sellers to list books, music, movies and video games on eBay using the same product database currently used on Half.com. Sellers can list items by entering an ISBN number, UPC code or keyword. Sellers can then select from additional product details, stock photos and other content to add to their listing.
On Friday, eBay said it will roll out the Pre-Fill Item Information feature one category at a time in the following order: Video Games, Movies, Music, and Books. The process may take up to 2 weeks.
