Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Enters into Exclusive Agreement with PostNet for Drop-off Stores

PostNet said it has been testing out a new venture with eBay to provide consignment selling at 12 of its PostNet franchise locations in California, Nevada, Arizona and Georgia. Following a successful first quarter, the "eBay Trading Post" program will be expanded to all other domestic locations.

PostNet is a service franchise with 850 locations in 44 states and abroad providing digital copy and document services, printing and finishing services, computer/Internet services, domestic and international shipping, private mailboxes, office supplies, notary services and more. The exclusive agreement with eBay allows PostNet to set up "eBay Trading Posts" in its retail centers, with PostNet employees serve as Trading Assistants.

Walter Duflock, the head of eBay's Trading Assistant Program, introduced the opportunity for PostNet to create a relationship with eBay. "We believe this new relationship offers a lot of synergy between PostNet's ability to service small businesses and individual customers and the new service of selling items for them on eBay." Duflock said that currently, the overwhelming majority of eBay users are buyers, and there's a real need for more sellers.

To market the project, interior and exterior signage, brochures and handouts on how the process works, and an aggressive direct mail campaign are underway.
