Amazon Opens Catalog to Sellers

Reading AuctionBytes: Amazon Opens Catalog to Sellers

Amazon announced a beta version of a "Create a Product Detail Page" for its Pro Merchants. The new feature allows sellers to add items to the Amazon.com catalog when Amazon does not sell the item itself.

Marketplace items appear on Amazon.com product detail pages. In the past, if Amazon.com did not carry the item, the seller was limited to listing the item in Auctions or zShops. With the new feature, sellers can add the item to the catalog and list the item in Marketplace.

Newly added products will appear in eligible retail stores within 1-4 days and can be added to Wish Lists and Listmania Lists. Amazon said pages can even be created for products that don't fit into one of its existing stores, like auto parts or collectible stamps. The page will remain on the Amazon Web site, available to other sellers who may also have copies for sale. The "Create a Product Detail Page" feature is currently in beta testing and will be available for single-item creation at launch and bulk creation later in 2004.
