eBay is changing its music category structure and will remove all lower level categories. Beginning in mid-March, eBay sellers will list music items in either the CDs, Records, Cassettes, or Other Format categories. eBay said sellers can include additional product details by using "Item Specifics."
Item Specifics is an eBay feature that allows sellers to provide additional item details during the selling process. Buyers can search using these item details in addition to regular Title search and Description Search.
eBay said the category simplification will make it easier for buyers to browse and search in the music categories and will be able to use the Product Finder to further refine their search by genre or other Item Specifics. For example, eBay's announcement stated, a seller who currently wants to list the "Matchbox Twenty: More Than You Think You Are" CD might currently list in the following category: Entertainment > Music > CDs > Rock > Alternative. Next they would select the appropriate Item Specifics, such as genre and condition. After this category change, the seller would select the following category: Entertainment > Music > CDs. The additional details can then be listed with the appropriate Item Specifics.
