Each week, with data provided by Medved's Auction Counts, AuctionBytes will look back at the previous week's auction sell-through rate for eBay's top-level categories. Medved's compiles statistics on eBay auctions, monitoring eBay.com pages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 1.5 hour intervals for their auction counts and sell-through statistics.
Medved's process for collecting sell-through data has changed over the past 10 days. In order to calculate the sell-through statistics more accurately, Medved now takes a proprietary sampling of completed auction data. Data now includes "Buy it Now" items as well as those items which have been purchased in the final moments of an auction. Also beginning this week the sell-through data reflects eBay's new category changes.
Data collection for auction counts (http://www.medved.net/cgi-bin/cal.exe?EIND) was started Wednesday, September 1, 1999. Sell-through data collection was started on December 28, 2003. eBay's counts do include some international listings, but not all. The counts are only taken from the US site, but eBay includes some international listings in those counts.
