A site called eBayDeadbeats.com has put itself up for auction on eBay. The site was created as a place for eBay sellers to discuss the problem of deadbeat bidders, also known as non-paying bidders (NPBs). The goals of the site are to increase awareness of the problem of deadbeats and to educate sellers about what recourse they have.
A section on the site explains the various types of eBay deadbeats, including the "Non-Communicatus Deadbeatus" and the "Shippous Et Handlus Bitchurious Deadbeatus." A banner declaring "I report bad bidders to EbayDeadbeats.com" was available for users to insert in their auctions as a deterrent against annoyance bids.
John Dreese, owner of the site, said he lacked the funding and time to continue operating the site. In addition, he said the forums were starting to draw "unscrupulous people." Dreese, who created the site in 2000, put the site up for auction last April, when it did not meet minimum reserve price.
The site is scheduled to end March 27 and has a starting bid of $400 with a "Buy It Now" price of $750.
