Reading AuctionBytes: Vendio Announces New Merchandising Tool and Positive Financials

Auction-management vendor Vendio announced a new Gallery designed to help eBay sellers better cross-sell to customers in a fun and unique format. The company also reported a record number of subscribers, higher overall gross margins, no debt, and announced profitability on a GAAP basis for two years.

Vendio CEO Rodrigo Sales said GAAP net income increased over $500K from the previous year, and gross margins expanded to 80% during the second half of 2003. The company has a record number of subscribers, with monthly subscriptions growing 66 percent year over year. Sales said Vendio’s financial health is the result of new products, more customers and efficient business practices.

Vendio introduced a new Gallery offering with four unique styles to choose from, including Marquee, a scrolling list of items with roll over product highlights; Slot Machine, consisting of three items that rotate with a click of a button; and Basic.

The fourth gallery style is called Memory Game, and operates like the game "Concentration." Customers match two pairs by "turning over" blank tiles. If they match all the tiles, the images spin and visitors can play a new game.

"As auctions have become increasingly popular, much of the fun has been lost to the rigors of competition," said Rodrigo Sales, CEO of Vendio. "With Vendio Gallery, we want to help merchants sell more efficiently, give buyers more choices and capture some of the original spirit that made the early auction community so fun and unique."

The new tool is different from the Vendio auction gallery, which comes standard with a Vendio Store. The new Gallery tool can be inserted directly into eBay listings. Visitors viewing an eBay listing can see all items the seller has for sale on eBay, including eBay auctions and eBay Store items.

Sales said this can help users take advantage of eBay's low Store listing fees (2 cents for 30 days) by giving exposure to Store listings right in eBay auction listings.

Vendio charges $2.95/month for the new Gallery tool.
